JioCinema, which was launched in 2016 and has become one of the most popular streaming apps in India, currently offers free content to Jio subscribers. The platform provides a wide range of entertainment options, including movies, web series, TV shows, documentaries, music videos, and sports. Jio even obtained the rights to stream the FIFA World Cup 2022 live online and is presently offering free streaming of the Indian Premier League 2023. However, it seems that the days of free entertainment may soon come to an end, as JioCinema reportedly plans to launch a paid membership service that will require users to pay to access its content.
The launch of new premium plans will result in users being required to pay to access the platform’s content. A test website displaying three premium subscription levels has also surfaced. According to a screenshot of the test website posted by a Reddit user, JioCinema may offer three subscription plans: Daily, Gold, and Platinum. Let us examine each of the paid plans that JioCinema may introduce in greater detail.
JioCinema Premium Plans
Daily: The cost of this one-day plan will be ₹29, but after a 93% discount, the plan will be available for as little as ₹2. Users can watch content simultaneously on two devices and enjoy non-stop entertainment for an entire day.
Gold: The gold plan will cost ₹99 and will support two devices simultaneously. The standard gold plan will be valid for three months, with a final cost of ₹99, which is a 67% decrease from the original price of ₹299.
Platinum: This plan can be purchased for ₹599 and is valid for 12 months. With this top-tier platinum package, users can watch their favourite shows on up to four different devices. Moreover, there will be no ads except during live streams. The cost reflects a 50% reduction from the original price tag of ₹1,199.
It is important to note that these subscription plans have not yet been implemented, so users can continue to watch films on JioCinema for free. Jio is expected to announce its plans soon, perhaps following the conclusion of the Tata IPL 2023.
JioCinema is planning to expand its content inventory by over 100 films and TV shows on its streaming platform. Furthermore, the platform is expected to introduce a subscription-based model for accessing content with the increase in its content inventory.
